Description

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION – Glow in the dark solvent paint

LuminoKrom® white phosphorescent paint enhances the quality of local facilities and plan, making cycle paths and pedestrian walkways more practicable all year round and at all times, even in difficult weather conditions. Our white glow in the dark beaconing reassures users by enabling them to visualize the route in the dark, anticipating bends or the presence of obstacles in the absence of light. Compare to simple road marking invisible at night, our glow in the dark paint highlights markings on the road in the dark.

The glow paint charges during the day and lights up in the dark, creating a “light guide” visible for over 6 hours and up to 80 meters. All without electricity, CO2 emissions or harmful environmental impact.

The use of phosphorescent paint increases the use of greenways and cycle paths, whether for daily commuting or for the pleasure of a night-time ride, in summer and winter alike. The luminescence time of our photoluminescent markings, ranging from 6 to 10 hours, ensures that the cycling experience lasts in the dark on green ways specially equipped with our glow product.

APPLICATION

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE SOLVENT-BASED PAINT APPLICATION

Before applying our glow in the dark paint, it's important to consult the technical data sheet for each product in the range.

Make sure the road surface is at least one month old. It must be dry, clean and free of all traces of pollution, oil or grease (from the ambient air or repeated passage of vehicles, cars or motorcycles). The surface must not be subject to rising damp through capillary action, and must be sufficiently rough for the coating to adhere properly and for the phosphorescent paint pigments to work properly. If necessary, the surface can be washed and dried before painting.

It's essential to apply photoluminescent products over a first coat of white paint. This white undercoat reinforces the luminous effect of the phosphorescent paint and will play a vital role in the luminescent performance of the marking.

Our glow in the dark road paint can be applied in different ways: with an airless machine or a pneumatic/aerographic spray gun. Marking machines are used for professional road markings, thanks to their spraying systems which enable fast, precise application. Airbrushes are ideal for small surfaces on floors or walls, as well as for signage markings, ensuring uniform application.

LuminoKrom® phosphorescent paint is ready-to-use and requires no dilution before use (see paint data sheet).

Steps for applying white solvent-based paint

  1. Clean the area to be painted with water or a suitable cleaner.
  2. Use tape or stencils to mark the lines or symbols to be painted, to ensure clean, precise lines. This also delimits the areas to be painted and protects surrounding areas.
  3. Apply the first white undercoat paint at a dosage of 400 g/m².
  4. Allow the first coat of paint to dry for 30 minutes. It is important to respect the drying time of the undercoat before applying one of our glow in the dark paints.
  5. Prepare your equipment and tools and clean the machine with the rinsing solvent.
  6. Prepare the white-color glow in the dark paint. Homogenize the paint from the chosen LuminoKrom® range. The paint and the glow pigments present must be thoroughly mixed before use to ensure a homogeneous consistency. Depending on the context and conditions of use, it may be necessary to dilute the paint with an appropriate solvent to obtain the desired viscosity.
  7. Apply the coat of white luminescent paint, targeting a dosage of 900g/m². Be sure to follow the weight and speed recommendations given in the technical data sheet for each of our solvent- and water-based paints.
  8. Allow to dry for 45 minutes. Drying time may vary slightly depending on the environment and ambient temperature at the time of application. During this time, it is important to protect the painted area from traffic and bad weather.
  9. After installation, clean your tools with acetyl thinner.

« I can see that the objective has been achieved and that the result is of high quality. We've had very positive feedback from users, cycling groups and the Environment Department. We will certainly be applying this marking to our future operations. »

Mr Clef, Infrastructure Department, Saint-Paul de la Réunion Town Hall

« The luminescent markings on the cycle path between Saint-Apollinaire and Varois et Chaignot are a welcome initiative. It will enable cyclists to use the cycle path even at night, especially in winter when it gets dark quickly. This luminescent marking also has the advantage of making the cycle path more attractive and, above all, even safer, which is the most important point in making it easier for cyclists to use. »

ADVANTAGES OF WHITE GLOW IN THE DARK SOLVENT PAINT

A solvent-based paint is one in which the binder and pigments are dissolved in a volatile organic solvent. These solvents, such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones or esters, thin the paint, making it easier to use and adhere to surfaces. During application, the solvent evaporates, leaving a solid layer of binder and pigments.

Solvent-based paints offer many advantages/options and are widely used in road and industrial environments. They dry quickly after application, are tough and durable, and stand up well to extreme weather conditions. They are widely used in outdoor applications. Their excellent adhesion to a variety of surfaces makes them a preferred choice for demanding environments.

Where is solvent-based paint used?

Solvent-based products are used in a variety of contexts where their specific properties and different options/colors are particularly advantageous, notably in the automotive, construction and aviation sectors. In the automotive industry, solvent-based paints are preferred for airbrushing the bodywork of cars, motorcycles and other vehicles. They give the bodywork a smooth, glossy, durable finish, resisting scratches, dents and weathering.

In the field of road marking, these paints are also highly appreciated for their fast drying and durability in the face of heavy traffic and varied climatic conditions, guaranteeing reliable, resistant road signage.

When is LuminoKrom® solvent-based phosphorescent paint used?

Our white-color glow in the dark paint is perfectly adapted to road markings due to its neutral color in the field of circulated areas.

LuminoKrom® glow in the dark paint acts as a luminous guide on the floor or wall, making it easier to move around in the dark. Using the principle of luminescence, our marking improves visibility when moving around in the dark. In fact, when an environment is plunged into darkness, due to a lack of light or the absence of lighting, our glow in the dark paint serves as a luminous signpost for road users. Our white photoluminescent marking product is versatile: it can be used for safety and signposting on roads (cycle paths, greenways, crosswalks) as well as in pedestrian environments, such as pavement markings on sidewalks or as part of animation markings.

Our solvent-based phosphorescent paint is available in different options of colors: white, yellow and almond green.

How does phosphorescent paint work?

Glow in the dark paint exploits the phenomenon of luminescence, and more specifically phosphorescence (Not to be confused with fluorescent paint). In fact, the special glow pigments present in our range of paints make it possible to exploit the natural phenomenon of luminescence.

A glow pigment is capable of capturing daylight and restoring it in the dark, as soon as it is plunged into darkness. To be more precise, a phosphorescent pigment has the ability to store light energy when exposed to a light source, then gradually re-emit it in the dark.

This phenomenon, known as phosphorescence, differs from fluorescence in the duration of light emission. Whereas fluorescent paint ceases almost immediately after the light source is switched off, phosphorescent paint lasts for several minutes, hours or even longer, depending on the composition of the glow in the dark pigment.

Our white glow in the dark road product is certified class E, and its luminescence lasts for over 6 hours.
